On April 22, 2025, NUST Community Service Club (NCSC), along with students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences, SMME, and faculty sponsor NCSC Ms. Maheen Mumtaz, visited the Armed Forces Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFIRM). The visit aimed to expose students to real-world applications of rehabilitative healthcare and to highlight the critical services provided to individuals and our soldiers with physical disabilities, especially those affected by the war on terror.

The group was warmly welcomed by the AFIRM team and given a comprehensive orientation about the institute’s role and impact. Students were introduced to a variety of departments including Occupational Therapy, Pain Management, and the Artificial Limbs and Appliances Center (ALAC).

The students also had the opportunity to visit AFIRM’s holistic rehabilitation facilities such as the Hydrotherapy Pool a Halotherapy room featuring a Pink Salt Cave, and an indoor sports facility designed to support physical and psychological recovery.

One of the most impactful aspects of the visit was learning about the vocational training programs for amputees, particularly those who lost limbs due to war on terror. These initiatives empower individuals to regain independence and reintegrate into society with dignity.

The visit was a deeply enriching experience, providing students with meaningful exposure to the intersection of biomedical sciences and community-centered rehabilitation.
